Mediation

Sometimes people's arguments get stuck and there appears to be no way of sorting them out, mediation is a way of helping solve them. Examples of this might be, you want your school to understand your point of view, or maybe your parents have made some decision you are unhappy with, or you might not understand.  The aim of mediation is to come up with a solution that both parties feel reasonably happy with and The Edge Mediator can help both parties look at the problems without taking sides.

Quite often people ask if family mediation is the same as family therapy? The answer is that it's different, mediation is very much about looking for practical solutions to problems. Family therapy on the other hand may look at the history of how family difficulties arise and what the meaning is behind some of the ways we behave.

During mediation, The Edge Mediator will spend time listening to you and the other person to try and get a good idea of what the problem is. They will then help both parties look at possible solutions - these will not be suggested by The Edge Mediator, but will be solutions that you and the other party have come up with. The mediator will then help you pick the option that you both feel is the best solution and help you work out how to make the changes.
