Alternative therapyThe Edge considers alternative therapies and relaxation exercises to be an essential component to a young persons treatment of drug/alcohol use. ReikiReiki means Universal Life Force Energy. You can sit or lie down to receive Reiki and you only need to remove your watch and your shoes. Reiki flows through the therapist's hands, stimulating and activating the body's natural healing abilities at a very deep level. Reiki will go to wherever it is needed in the body to create a balance of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual energies. After at least one full treatment of about an hour, shorter but more focused sessions may be helpful when treating certain conditions. Colour and crystals may be used to enhance the treatment. Reiki helps the body to achieve a very deep state of relaxation, helping to balance negative thoughts and feelings and reducing stress. As well as clearing toxins and energising the body, Reiki also helps to overcome addictions. Everyone experiences Reiki differently but most people feel very relaxed, refreshed and energised after a Reiki treatment. Reiki is a very safe non-invasive treatment and any possible after-effects will be discussed with you. A full medical history will need to be taken to ensure that the treatment is suitable. ReflexologyReflexology is a holistic therapy on the feet that is closely associated with acupuncture. All the techniques use a gentle pressure, which does not tickle. In Reflexology, the feet act as mirrors of the body and any imbalances on the reflex points may feel tender but will show where toxins need to be released. Reflexology induces deep relaxation, reducing anxiety, tension and stress. By bringing the body's systems into balance, the body is cleansed of toxins and the immune system will be strengthened. A treatment session will normally last about 40-45 minutes. You will need to remove your socks and the Reflexologist will gently cleanse your feet. The treatment can be done either sitting or lying down listening to relaxing music. Most people feel very relaxed and in a state of balance after Reflexology but any possible after-effects will be discussed with you. There are some conditions and illnesses where Reflexology is not advisable and the Reflexologist will need to discuss your current state of health and your medical history to determine whether it is a suitable treatment for you. Auricular AcupunctureMany young people have found Auricular Acupuncture really helpful for stress relief, anger management and relaxation. The treatment involves inserting 5 small needles into each ear. It is relatively painless and leaves you feeling much more relaxed and stress free. For those who do not like needles, there are beads and seeds which can be used instead. Young people with ADHD have found this treatment really useful. Auricular Acupuncture takes approx 30 to 40 minutes following a small health questionnaire. As with all our treatments, Auricular Acupuncture is free so why don't you give it a try. Indian Head MassageThis treatment involves massaging the back, shoulders, neck, head and face. Young people who have had this massage report benefits such as improved sleep, pain relief, stress relief, deep relaxation and improved concentration. The treatment is free and takes around 30 to 40 minutes following a health consultation to ensure that the treatment is appropriate for you and your health. |
