Medical TreatmentThe following interventions can only be accessed following a specialist medical assessment, which is offered 48 hours after the young person's needs have been identified: Blood Borne Virus Clinic - A young person will be given information on HIV & Hepatitis, and where necessary advice/access to Hepatitis C testing and Hepatitis B vaccination. Needle Exchange – The Edge does not provide a needle exchange, however we would link in and advocate for a young person's to access the appropriate agencies. Prescribed Medication – If you are attempting to address your drug/alcohol misuse, it is sometimes appropriate to liaise with medical practitioners to offer a structured medication programme, such as Methadone, to assist in relief of withdrawal from drugs e.g. Heroin. The Edge will help you with this process. Detoxification – The Edge can help access detox for young people who are struggling with their addiction. Detox can take place in the community but for those not able to address their addictive behaviour within a community setting, a short inpatient detox can be explored. RESIDENTIAL REHABSome people find that their addiction has taken over their lives and need intensive support to rebuild a life without drugs. This may involve going to residential rehab. There are many different types of rehab all of which can be explained to you so that if you find yourself needing rehab, you can understand what is available to you. |
